When we talk about high-quality cosmetics, we often use a term that is popular but sometimes vague. In the cosmetic industry, however, quality has a very specific meaning: it is linked not only to legal requirements, but also to the expectations of the end user.

Two Faces of Cosmetic Quality: Expected and Explicit

Cosmetic quality can be divided into two main categories:

1. Expected Quality

This is the type of quality that consumers take for granted, but whose absence would cause immediate dissatisfaction.
It refers to the safety of the product, which depends mainly on the manufacturer.

Producers must comply with rigorous procedures based on GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), ensuring that cosmetics meet the requirements of European Regulation 1223/2009.

In practice, this means that a cosmetic must not cause irritations, infections, or allergies. It may sound obvious, but the increase in adverse events in recent years—especially with the rise of imported products from foreign markets—shows just how central this aspect is.

2. Explicit Quality

This is the quality consumers actively expect from a cosmetic, based on the claims it makes.
For example, from an anti-aging cream, we expect a visible reduction in wrinkles.

Explicit quality is guaranteed by:

• In-depth research on the choice of cosmetic ingredients

• Efficacy tests on volunteers, carried out on prototypes before final production

This ensures that cosmetics are not only safe but also truly effective.
